You Give What You Get

Time is flying by.
Lately, I've found myself believing that our inner frequency matters more than almost anything else.
Our families are scattered farther than ever from where they began. Our attention is increasingly captured by screens designed to compete for every second of it. And somewhere along the way, many of us became experts at rehearsing futures that haven't happened.
Fear.
Uncertainty.
Doubt.
We spend remarkable amounts of energy living inside realities that don't yet exist, while giving very little attention to the energy we are creating in this moment.
Recently, my son Sylas has been saying something that catches me completely off guard.
"Daddy... we're alive."
Every time he says it, I stop.
Because while my mind is busy trying to predict the future, solve tomorrow's problems, and calculate every possible outcome, he's reminding me of the only thing that's actually true.
We are alive.
Maybe that's what this whole experience is asking of us.
Not to become better fortune tellers.
Not to master every possible outcome.
But to become better participants in the miracle of being here.
I've noticed that fear, uncertainty, and doubt all carry the same quality. They narrow us. They convince us that by thinking harder, worrying longer, or preparing for every possible disappointment, we'll somehow become safer.
Yet the opposite has been true in my own life.
The more tightly I try to control what comes next, the less available I become to what is already unfolding around me.
You get what you give.
Whatever energy we cultivate becomes the signal we send into the world. If we continually rehearse scarcity, we begin to see scarcity everywhere. If we cultivate gratitude, openness, curiosity, and love, our lives begin to organize themselves around those qualities.
Not because life suddenly becomes easier.
But because we become available to possibilities we couldn't have imagined before.
The beautiful thing about life is that it almost never arrives the way we planned.
It arrives sideways.
Through conversations we didn't expect.
Through people we almost didn't meet.
Through opportunities we never could have predicted.
Through mystery.
Maybe that's faith.
Not believing that everything will happen exactly as you hope.
But believing that you don't have to know exactly how it will happen.
So as we move into August, imagine your dreams hanging just beyond your reach—not as something to chase with anxiety, but something to walk toward with openness.
Leave a little room for surprise.
Leave a little room for wonder.
Leave a little room for life to be wiser than your plans.
Love,
Matthew
P.S. This summer, support a small business.
Behind every neighborhood shop is someone who has poured years of their life into creating something they believe the world needs. In a time shaped by AI, algorithms, and constant change, your decision to shop locally isn't just a purchase—it's a vote for community, craftsmanship, and the people willing to risk everything to create something meaningful.
