Frequently Asked Questions
Your guide to Late Sunday Afternoon, where ritual meets style.
Scarf Basics
What is a neck scarf?
Our neck scarves are unique creations that are not typically seen in stores. We married a traditional neck tie with a wild rag bandana. Our neck scarf is more than fabric; it's a wearable ritual. Tie it at your neck, in your hair, on your wrist, around your waist, or on your bag. Known as a necktie or ascot, it’s a way to carry presence with you, every day. We have all different sizes from our ‘shorty’ to our ‘Apache’. Every size for all different people. The neck scarf sizes range from 28 inches all the way to 52 inches. The widths vary from 1 inch to 4 1/2 inches.
What is a kerchief?
Our kerchiefs are triangular scarves (approx. 36” x 25” x 25”) designed for effortless tying. Imagine a bandana with half the weight gone! They sit lighter than a square scarf, offering style without bulk. Ideal for wrapping hair, knotting at the neck for sun protection, or adding a whisper of elegance to any outfit.
What is a slitted poncho?
Our ponchos are shaped and cut with intentional slits so they move as you move. They drape like shawls, wrap like scarves, and can still function as a traditional poncho. They’re designed for flow, comfort, and timeless beauty.
Care & Longevity
How do I clean my scarf?
- Hand wash in cold water with mild soap.
- Do not tumble dry instead, lay flat to air dry. If you do choose to use a dryer use low heat. This will enviably change the texture of the fabric.
For delicate fabrics (like silks or vintage wools), dry clean is safest.
Your scarf is an heirloom in the making. Gentle care helps it last decades. Scarves are worn on the outside of your clothing and do not typically require regular wash and dry like clothing worn all day long.
How do I store my scarf?
We tell people our scarves are best kept in your purse, backpack, in the back of your car, on your couch, or bed. They are not ‘keep in the closet’ type of scarves. If you choose to keep your scarf in a drawer then folded is best or if you choose to keep it rolled it will give creases sometimes adding to its overall vibe. For travel, slip one in your bag scarves are made to be used, not hidden. Whether you wear your scarf, remember it, or see it around the house, it is a sign to check in to how you are treating yourself.
Scarf Sizes & Differences
What are the different scarf sizes?
Our scarves are all cut uniquely and are an approximation. All are hand-cut from dead-stock and vintage fabrics; which means no two are exactly alike.
- Signature (40 inches x 94 inches Approximately) – The traveler’s favorite. Perfect as a wrap, blanket, or oversized styling piece.
- Light (20 inches x 84 inches Approximately) – Slim, sleek, the “grab-and-go” layer easy to wear daily.
- Jacket (15 inches - 20 inches x 60 inches Approximately) – Compact, non-bulky, perfect to be worn with a jacket.
- Half (30 inches to 35 inches x 85 inches Approximately) – Square-style wrap with generous drape.
What are the different lengths of neck scarves?
- Shorty (28 inches to 32 inches) Shorter, more like a bandana but way lighter.
- Signature (32 inches – 34 inches) Shorter, easy everyday tie.
- Mid (35 inches – 41 inches) Slightly longer for more styling options.
- Long (42 inches – 52 inches ) Drapes with presence.
- Chunky (34 inches – 41 inches) A wider, bolder version for maximum flair. Great for wearing in your hair.
Small Accessories
What sizes are your pocket squares, bandanas, and headscarves?
Much like everything we make, our squares are not perfect squares. We make our squares slightly off to give character as people are not square and your neck is certainly not square. If you want something perfect and square LSA is not right for you.
- Pocket Square: 8 inches x 8 inches – A finishing touch for jackets, or a small ritual to carry.
- Bandana: 22 to 24 inches x 22 to 24 inches – Classic Americana size.
- Headscarf: 25 to 30 inches x 25 to 30 inches – Slightly larger, versatile for tying or wrapping.
Each one is hand-cut from vintage or dead-stock fabrics.

Fabric & Sustainability
Where do you get your fabrics?
We use dead-stock fabric leftover rolls from large fashion houses that would otherwise go to waste. The fashion industry discards 92 million tons of fabric each year. We choose to rescue, repurpose, and reimagine it. Some of our pieces are made from vintage fabrics we find from around the world.
Are your products sustainable?
Yes, we are a no-waste business. Every scrap is reused (from scarves to dog beds). Our process honors the people who make our goods, the earth that provides, and the community we serve. The long scraps from our machine are used to wrap your gifts. The shreds that we cannot use we pack into burlap coffee sacs we get from Ground Work Coffee and turn them into dog beds that we donate. The first and last years of fabric is used to make baby blankets for children in need.
Brand Story & Philosophy
Why are you called Late Sunday Afternoon?
The name Late Sunday Afternoon was chosen because it’s more than a moment in time, it is a feeling. Late Sunday Afternoon is that pause before the week begins again. It is when the light softens, when you might sit with tea, flip through a book, or share a quiet meal with someone you love. It is a space for reflection, a breath of calm, an invitation to slow down and remember who you are.
When you put on one of our scarves or garments, we want you to carry that same feeling with you. To wear it is to remind yourself that no matter how busy or noisy life becomes, you can always return to stillness. The essence of our brand is not just fashion it is presence because that’s the feeling we want you to have: slowing down, reflecting, and finding yourself in the stillness of the week’s end.
What does "knotted and blessed" mean?
Every piece we make is hand-finished with four intentional knots. These end seams at the end of the sewing process aren’t just stitches or thread, they are intentional blessings. How often do you buy something that was blessed with intention so you could practice blessing yourself. Each knot is blessed to:
LOVE – to soften your heart and your relationship to yourself.
HAPPINESS – to remind you that joy lives in the smallest details and that those details are what your life is made of.
ADVENTURE – to encourage you to step into the unknown, even in ordinary days. That fear is not your friend but a sign to step away from comfort.
MYSTERY – to honor the great unknown that keeps life beautiful and alive.
By blessing each scarf this way, we infuse it with more than fabric and thread; We pass forward intention. When you wear it, you’re not just putting on an accessory, you’re participating in a daily ritual of self-affirmation. It’s a reminder that how you speak to yourself is
HOW YOU SPEAK TO YOURSELF IS HOW YOU SHOW UP IN YOUR WORLD.
How to Wear
How do you wear scarves?
There’s no wrong way. Wrap one around your neck, use it as a sarong at the beach, fold it into a head-wrap, or throw it across your shoulders on a cold flight.
We’ll be adding tutorials and tying guides soon, but the real secret: experiment, play, and let it become yours.
