Late Sunday Afternoon

Happy Summer,

Simon and Garfunkel once sang, “Slow down, you’re moving too fast, you’ve got to make the morning last...”

But how do we actually do that? How do we find clarity in what’s right in front of us?

Our egos, hardwired for survival, like to insist that whatever is immediately before us is the most important thing in the world. But is it?

Lately, many customers coming into the shop have, through conversation, revealed how poorly they practice self-care. I find it fascinating — and telling — that self-care is something so many of us push aside. Somewhere along the path of being human, we forgot that we matter. We forgot that our instincts don’t always align with what’s best for us. And if you live long enough, you’ll inevitably be met with new stresses, new challenges.

I learned proper self-care from my wife. Thankfully, I married someone who taught me healthy habits: how to identify my own needs, and how to make plans to meet them.

When we begin to recognize what we need, we can start creating a roadmap of care. And once we begin meeting those needs, we start showing up more clearly — for ourselves, and for those around us.

SLOW DOWN, YOU’RE MOVING TOO FAST

The truth is, when you cultivate a healthy self, you gain the power, the resources, and the capacity to be fully present in your daily life. Your family, your coworkers, your community — they begin to experience the real you.

So take time to ask yourself what you truly need. Maybe it’s a weekly massage. Maybe a girls’ night out. Maybe just an evening alone, without the kids or the noise.

This is your life to live. You have the privilege and the responsibility to do the heavy lifting of seeing how you may be stopping yourself from living your own truth. And when we step into our truth, we show everyone around us what a healthy, grounded adult looks like.

You deserve to meet yourself where you are — and to take the time to imagine where you’d like to go. And when you share that with those around you, they can support you along the way.

Remember: action is inspirational.

Much Love,
