Because for me it did not. I wanted an eye mask that would not slip off and a hood that actually kept me warm, and the standard hoodie had neither. So I stopped accepting the standard. Every detail on Apollo X answers one small failure of an ordinary hoodie, and none of them is there for decoration.
THE SPECIFICATION
Six decisions, marked where they live on the piece.
Built-in eye mask
A standard hood just covers your head. This one folds down into an eye mask, and folds back up to wear like a beanie.
Ear panel
A second layer of cloth over each ear softens sound and holds warmth in, where a standard hood stops at one layer.
Gravity-weight 30oz cotton
Ounces measure the weight of the cloth, and the higher the number, the denser the knit. It is 100% cotton, so all that weight still breathes.
Padded sleeves
A padded panel along the forearm, so the arm you lean on becomes the pillow.
Hidden lens cloth pocket
A second pocket inside the front pouch, sized for a phone or sunglasses and lined in a cloth that cleans a lens.
Thumb hole cuffs
Longer cuffs with a hole for the thumb, so the sleeve stays over your hand instead of riding up.

They designed this with every detail. I flew to Europe and enjoyed the eye mask, the secret cell phone pocket, and honestly most of all I loved the ear pads; which stopped cold air and sound :)
This is the coolest thing I have ever seen. How did it take this long to create something this cool!
I love everything about it. It has been so well thought through.
The cell phone pocket is really nice and works well to keep my phone secure. The extra padding and eye mask are really nice additions and really add to the comfort.
They’re very well made, are good quality and have been so well designed! There are extra pockets in surprising places.
It is just the right weight (heavy); the phone pocket is innovative, and it just plain feels great to wear.
ON THE DETAILS
Seven details: an eye mask built into the hood, an extra layer over each ear, padded forearms, thumb hole cuffs, a hidden lens cloth pocket inside the pouch, two side-seam pockets, and gravity-weight 30oz cotton.
It is part of the hood. Fold it down over your eyes for dark. Fold it back up and it sits on your head like a beanie. There is no strap, and nothing separate to carry or lose.
Your phone or sunglasses. It is lined in a cloth that cleans glasses and screens, so you never have to dig through a bag for one.
Ounces are the weight of the cloth, and a higher number means a denser knit. At 30oz, Apollo X is heavy enough to wear as a layer. It is 100% cotton, so it still breathes.
Apollo X is knit from 100% cotton in downtown Los Angeles.
Wash cold and inside out, and dry low. It washes well, will not pill, and gets softer with every wash.
